The Cedar is honored to present a rare performance by Triganol featuring the formidable talents of Anthony Cox (Bass, Cello and Percussion), Davu Seru (Drums and Percussion) and Douglas R. Ewart (Winds, Percussion, Poetry and Invented Instruments).

Triganol brings together three mighty streams for an expansive foray into improvised music.

 

TRIGANOL

Anthony Cox is an internationally renowned arranger, composer, performer, recording artist and educator. His career that has spanned over 30 years encompassing music education, composition, and performance that include an extensive list of collaborations with notable artists in the field of jazz, including Sam Rivers, Joe Lovano, Geri Allen, Kenny Wheeler, Ed Blackwell, Billy Higgins, John Scofield, Dino Saluzzi, and Henry Threadgill.

Douglas R. Ewart is an award-winning composer, improviser, sculptor and maker of masks and instruments, educator, lecturer, arts organization consultant and all-around visionary. He is former chairman of the internationally renowned Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and has collaborated with master musicians such as Muhal Richard Abrams, Amina Myers, Beah Richards, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Anthony Braxton, Alvin Curran, Anthony Davis, Von Freeman, Fred Anderson, Joseph Jarman, Yusef Lateef, Roscoe Mitchell, Ajule Sonny Rutlin, Rita Warford, Dee Alexander, Robert Dick, George E. Lewis, James Newton, Cecil Taylor, Richard Teitelbaum and Henry Threadgill. Douglas was recipient of the 2022 McKnight Distinguished Artist Award.

Davu Seru is an improvising musician and composer known primarily for his work on drums. For the past 20+ years he has performed and recorded internationally with musicians such as Milo Fine, George Cartwright, Dean Magraw, Babatunde Lea, Nathan Hanson, Evan Parker, deVon R. Gray, Mankwe Ndosi, David Boykin, Donald Washington, Guillame Seguron, Catherine Delaunay and Nicole Mitchell Gantt. Davu is a new member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) as was recipient of the 2020 McKnight Composer Award.

SARAH M. GREER

Sarah M. Greer practices, studies and teaches the art of spontaneous singing (also known as vocal improvisation).
A singer and songwriter of impressive depth and breadth, Greer ably moves from otherworldly improvised tones to warm-as-sunshine spoken word, lament to lilting love song. Opening this special show, she is accompanied by her brother, drummer Nathan Greer.
