Ana Tijoux is THE Chilean hip-hop protester. Touring behind her first album in nine years, VIDA, with media outlets like Rolling Stone naming her as the best rapper in Spanish, The New York Times pointing other as the Latin American response to Lauryn Hill and magazines like Newsweek ranking her as the most important Latin American rapper on the international scene - The Cedar is super excited to be presenting this show in our very special 35th Anniversary year!
About Ana Tijoux
One of the most respected MCs in any language, Ana Tijoux has been winning over fans around the world since her debut ‘1977’ bubbled up from an underground sensation into mainstream recognition after being featured on the hit TV show ‘Breaking Bad’ and favorited by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.
Ana Tijoux was born in Lille, France in 1977. Her parents went into exile during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship in Chile, which has left a mark on her career, marked by a special sensitivity to political and social issues. Her music dialogues to the sound of hip hop, fused. A feminist and activist in her lyrics, she denounces social and cultural deficiencies. In favor of women's rights and against gender violence, in 2014 she highlighted in her album "Vengo" the song "Antipatriarch". Ana frequently participates in campaigns against inequality and oppression in the world and is committed to defending women's rights and denouncing gender violence and inequality. She has dozens of nominations for various awards such as the MTV, 40 Principales, Indie Music Awards and has had eight Grammy nominations (both Latin and Anglo), making her the Chilean woman with the most nominations for these awards.

MARIA ISA
María Isa Pérez-Vega is a Boricua (BO-REE-KWA) singer, songwriter, actress, rapper, activist, youth worker and international recording artist born in Minnesota and raised on St. Paul’s West Side barrio. She was raised by the influences of many different rhythms of Afro-Latino-Indigenous culture and channeled it into performing arts and activism at a very early age. Isa has been trained by the masters of the Afro-Boricua Diaspora from the island of Puerto Rico (Paracumbe, Tito Matos, Los Ayalas) New York City (LP21), Chicago's Humboldt Park (Evaristo "Tito" Rodriguez) and Master vocalists trained in concert choral (William White), jazz (Mila Llauger), Afro-Latin and Hip-hop lyricism.
Since 2009 Isa serves as CEO for her independent label SotaRico distributing over 15 of her projects bridging her music mix and upbringing of Minnesota and Puerto Rican culture into a fusion of sound. Isa received the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s “Rising Latina Star" award for her outstanding work with Youthrive Live! On behalf of working and educating incarcerated youth throughout the state of Minnesota while hosting several Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Maria Isa is currently the only elected official and Hip Hop artist to release an album on the same day she was sworn in as a Minnesota State Representative!
