THE BAND OF HEATHENS DUO

Like many groups, the Band of Heathens are road warriors. Ed Jurdi and co-founder Gordy Quist formed the group in Austin in 2005 and have since self-released all but their first album.
They’ve weathered lineup changes, altered their sound in subtle but sure ways, and built a devoted fan base that Jurdi describes as “second to none.”
Join Ed and Gordy with their acoustic guitars for a special stripped down show highlighting songs from the band’s nearly twenty year career.

Chris and Ari Silver

Acoustic Roots Run Deep hailing from the Midwest, Ari Silver now makes his home in Johnson City, Tennessee. He grew up immersed in bluegrass and Americana music. He spent weekends tagging along with his father, a professional musician, to bluegrass and folk festivals, learning everything he could from workshops to open stages and forming mentor relationships with national performing musicians and songwriters.
His musical career path took a turn when he decided to attend East Tennessee State’s Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots music studies degree program. During his four years at ETSU, Ari was able to study with bluegrass and old-time music legends including Mike Compton, Tim Stafford, Trey Hensley, and Wyatt Rice to name a few. While absorbing everything he could from his teachers, Ari became a member of the esteemed ETSU Vocal Band and formed several musical partnerships with fellow students and ETSU alumni. Ari has developed a growing following as a solo performer and as a member of the Dave Adkins band and Sage and Prairie Wildfire. He has also collaborated in songwriting and duo performances with Sage Palser who is also an ETSU graduate.

Chris was 17 years old when he accidentally discovered the genius of Doc Watson in the mid 1970s. After spending countless evenings spinning Docs records over and over, Chris caught on to the intricacies of flatpicking the steel string guitar. While his style is reminiscent of Doc’s and other first generation flatpickers, Chris has developed his own style over the years that weaves together his musical experience in bluegrass, blues, jazz, folk, global and American roots music. Thirty years later, including a decade on the road with the band Stoney Lonesome, hundreds of performances and workshops across the globe, and a series of acclaimed recordings, including “Sheltered” and a father/son duo record that was recorded during the pandemic.

Together, this father and son duo have carved out a new path into the world of roots music featuring many songs penned by Ari and Chris.
