Extreme Noise Records, located at 407 W. Lake St. in Minneapolis is a collectively owned and operated punk record store since 1994.

The Spits

In an era that relies so heavily on quick-hit bands, there are very few things that are truly part of the subculture and not just the passing zeitgeist du jour. Closing in on three decades, The Spits have signified the crossroads between punk mayhem and well-honed songwriting, creating some of the most unhinged and anthemic tracks in underground music while standing tall enough to be uttered in the same breath as names like Jay Reatard, Dead Moon, Ty Segall and more.

The Urinals

SoCal minimalists URINALS formed in 1978 at UCLA, issued three well-regarded singles, as well as an album and EP as their post-punk incarnation 100 FLOWERS. In the new century, they've released two albums of new material (available here) and have performed all over the US, in Canada, France, Belgium, and China. With their ties to Punk Rock, Pop, and Psychedelia, they resist easy categorization.

Bermuda Squares

As corny as it sounds, you can’t help but describe Bermuda Squares as a Minneapolis supergroup. Ringleaded by singer/guitarist Tony Milek, the band comprises members of Sinks, Neo Neos, Citric Dummies, Color TV, green/blue, Retainers, Dummy, the Soviettes, IV, and Awesome Snakes. That pedigree alone provides a good idea of where you’re heading here. Clever pop for dumdums. Well-crafted knuckle-dragging catchy fuzz hammered out meticulously by idiots.

Texture Freq

In a sadomasochistic dance of torment and catharsis, Texture Freq beckons listeners into a world where pain is pleasure and dissonance is beauty. Hailing from South Minneapolis and integrating influences across the hardcore spectrum, two guitars ebb with and against each other over a pulsing rhythm section to bring the listener and viewer something altogether raw, yet multifaceted, flexible, yet uncompromising. With the addition of lyrics honing in on masculinity, gay sexuality, and power, Texture Freq, never satisfied, weaves a complex of erotic self-awareness, visceral embodiment, and discontent.
