The 28 contiguous hour DRONE NOT DRONES, now in its Tenth offering at The Cedar, is at the heart of our mission to present cutting-edge, deep listening, community experienced music.
This intensely imaginative program is also expensive to produce. Like all businesses, we need to adapt to rising costs, from production, marketing, hospitality, staff needs, and more than ever, the need to pay artists fairly.
As a nonprofit, we remain deeply committed to the long-term sustainability of this and our year-round programming.
DRONE NOT DRONES is a particularly challenging production that demands much of its performers and our event staff. It also features as much live music (or more!) as one would usually see in a typical weekend-long music festival.

ABOUT THIS SHOW
A benefit for Doctors Without Borders, Minneapolis' DRONE NOT DRONES is part benefit concert, part art project, part community event.
Now, for the TENTH offering in the Cedar's 36th year of existence, more than fifty acts will rotate on and off the stage to create a single uninterrupted 28-hour drone to protest the extrajudicial and immoral drone program and raise money for the victims of the United States military-industrial complex.
"Drone music is a minimalist musical style that emphasizes the use of sustained or repeated sounds... It is typically characterized by lengthy audio programs with relatively slight harmonic variations throughout each piece compared to other music."
Be part of a unique experience while supporting a just cause. Come by before work, after work, or both. Bring a pillow/blanket to make yourself comfortable. Spend the night with us.
We may feel powerless to stop the military industrial complex from spreading war. But we can spread peace if we drone on and on about it...

Spiral Joy Band
Spiral Joy Band are one of the descendants of Richmond VA's legendary musical juggernaut, Pelt. Active and mutating for nearly 20 years delivering long-form improvisations.
SWAM
A new trio featuring Zak Sally (The Hand, Low, La Mano press/comics), Tim Rutili (Califone, Red Red Meat, Ugly Casanova), and Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse, The Black Heart Procession, The Shins)
Arrington de Dionyso
Indoasian trance music from Olympia, WA. Formerly of Old Time Relijun. The sort of weirdo who fits right in at Drone Not Drones.
Amy Cimini
From the band Necking. Amy is a violinist, author and a professor of music at UC San Diego. She absolutely killed at last year’s drone.
Matt Jencik
Formerly of the Kranky band Implodes, now putting out great solo albums of his own. Previously has played in many other bands including Don Caballero, Slint, Papa M, and Circuit Des Yeux live band.
Chingiz Kam
A Brown Bear Shaman of Tuva and throat singer. Chingiz Kam will provide a pre-drone blessing so get there early!
