Through his performances at the 1974 World’s Fair in Spokane, WA, the 1976 Smithsonian Bi-centennial FolkLife Festival in Washington DC, folk clubs and concert halls in 44 states and 15 countries and his appearances on A Prairie Home Companion, Pop Wagner has been recognized as an icon in the folk/roots music scene regionally, nationally and internationally since the early 1970’s.
And Pop Wagner is no stranger to the Cedar Cultural Center … or to honky tonkin’ either. He performed at the Cedar with the Honky Tonk Aces back in 2003. He also did a two year Tuesday night residency at the Eagles Club with Kevin Anthony and the Twin City Playboys culminating in his 2008 release of the CD Honky Tonk Ranch. His current band, "Pop Wagner’s Honky Tonk Ranch", formed in 2023 to play for a friend’s wedding and soon found a home at the 331 Club with a fourth Monday residency that enjoys an enthusiastic following. They cover the country classics from Johnny Cash to Hank Williams, Dave Dudley, Jimmy Rogers, Charlie Pride and more along with some of Pop’s original songs in that old-time honky tonk style.
The Cedar has one of the best sprung dance floors in the midwest - so bring your dancing shoes!
