An Evening with GAO HONG & IGNACIO MONTEVERDE - Pipa Meets Flamenco Guitar

Chinese pipa virtuoso Gao Hong and flamenco guitarist Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde met for the first time three days before they were scheduled to record their album, Alondra, at Abbey Road Studios in London. Taking on the bold and blithe freedom of the skylark, they flew together from ancient Asian dynasties, through the Thar desert to Andalusia, harmoniously combining cultures as the East meets West.

Volunteer Orientation

Have you ever wanted to peek behind the scenes at the Cedar? Learn more about how to participate at our venue by attending our monthly Volunteer Orientation led by volunteer coordinator Jared Hemming! Beginning with our first show 30 years ago, all of the Cedar’s events have been staffed by volunteers in our program, which now includes more than 400 members. Volunteers earn credit to see future shows for free. Tasks include setting up the venue, selling tickets and concessions, and cleaning at the end of each performance. All are welcome to join our volunteer program.

Minneapolis Arts Commission monthly meeting

Join the Minneapolis Arts Commission (MAC) at The Cedar for their monthly March meeting! Learn more about MAC and get a taste of local arts and government in action. The Minneapolis Arts Commission is a group of appointed volunteers who advise the City Council and Mayor’s office on arts-related issues and work closely with the Department of Arts & Cultural Affairs to advance a diverse arts and cultural environment. All meetings are open to the public and take place at the Public Service Building downtown and at various arts venues throughout the city. MAC is excited to meet this month at The Cedar! Doors open at 5pm. Concessions will be available. Our own Executive Director, Michelle Woster, will be speaking - come and meet your Minneapolis Arts Commissioners!

An Evening with WISCONSIN BRASS QUINTET

The Wisconsin Brass Quintet is joined by drummer Matthew Endres for an evening of music from around the globe and across an array of styles. From Piazzolla tangos to the Hindustani-influenced music of Reena Esmail to Leonard Bernstein's vibrant and eclectic MASS, this program showcases the virtuosity and versatility of the widely acclaimed WBQ. Brass artistry and an abundance of grooves combine for a dynamic and energetic performance.
