Welcome to the June edition of @The Cedar! There's still time to enjoy some great summer-themed music during June (including a just announced morning children's concert by Farmer Jason (6/28), the alter ego of Jason Ringenberg--veteran cowpunker of Jason and the Scorchers fame) before we take a break from presentations during July. We'll be back with a special one-off concert by Habib Koite and Bamada on August 6, and then the new season will open proper after Labor Day weekend, with several of the biggest shows going on sale at noon this Friday (6/6): Balkan Beat Box (9/14), Dougie MacLean (9/17), and the discounted Midnight Sun Festival Passes for the Tenth (and final annual) Nordic Roots Festival (9/25--9/28). This year's Festival features a compelling line-up, including many of the very best of the artists to have graced the Festival over the years: (Frigg (FIN-NOR), Hedningarna (SWE), Hoven Droven (SWE), Hurdy-Gurdy (SWE), Ranarim (SWE), Triakel (SWE), Väsen (SWE)), some brand-new talent (Detektivbyrån (SWE) and creative new combinations such as Waltz With Me (Annbørg Lien, Bruce Molsky, Mats Edén, Christine Hanson). Tickets for individual Nordic Roots Festival concerts will go on sale on August 1.

Coming up right away, fans of songs sung in Portuguese will have a double-treat this week, with Thursday's concert by Cape Verde's latest musical export, the golden-voiced guitarist Tcheka (accompanied by a small band)(6/5), and Friday's Twin Cities debut by catchy and upbeat maracatu band Nation Beat, with enthusiastic support from locals Batucada do Norte (6/6). Cajun dancers get one more chance to raise the dust at The Cedar this season with Saturday's appearance by youthful Feufollet, while lovers of European cabaret, neoclassical opera, Balkan and Gypsy will love the musical goulash cooked up by the rogues of Vagabond Opera (6/12).

There are no more tickets available for Billy Bragg (6/13), but instead, get out and support local acoustic duo Roma di Luna, remarkably releasing their third CD Casting the Bones only nine months after their second. They'll have plenty of musical guests and other band members to flesh out 'the Bones', and Spaghetti Western String Company will pitch in with an opening set (6/14).

Don't forget Dad on 6/15, and we make it easy with a unique Father's Day concert featuring the many and varied talents of Dan 'Daddy Squeeze' Newton, Pop Wagner, and Papa John Kolstad--something to make even the most hard-to-please Dad feel warmly appreciated. Or give the jazzy Dad tickets for the Bill Frisell concert the following weekend (6/21), as Bill trades licks with fellow guitarist Greg Leisz, along with drummer Rudy Royston, and bassist Tony Scherr.
