The Light the Marquee campaign raises money to renovate The Cedar's historic marquee.

The Cedar Cultural Center is located in the middle of the vibrant Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, which is home to a number of music and theater venues, restaurants, shops, and bars. The marquee on the roof of The Cedar's building serves not only as signage for the organization but as a landmark for the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the marquee has been dysfunctional for years: it does not light and its current condition is an eyesore. The "Light the Marquee" campaign will fund the restoration of the marquee to its original state. Neon tubing will light the letters “The Cedar” and the rusted facade and structure will be repaired. A renovated and well-lit marquee has the potential to make The Cedar a more widely visible monument that will draw more people to the area, serve as a landmark for the neighborhood and the city of Minneapolis, increase perceived activity in the district, enhance neighborhood aesthetics, and build community identity. What's more, the additional lighting would improve pedestrian security.
