The Cedar is doing its part to help fight global warming, and you can help! Take the MN Energy Challenge and join The Cedar’s team: see how much energy we can save together. Go to mnenergychallenge.org/challenge and choose “Business Teams” then “Cedar Cultural Center” at the end of the challenge. Your participation will help The Cedar win a grant from The City of Minneapolis.

As part of a climate change strategy, The Cedar is encouraging patrons to reduce their carbon footprint by drinking tap water instead of bottled water. Plastic bottles require massive amounts of fossil fuels to manufacture and transport; production of bottles for water required more than 17 million barrels of oil last year and generated more than 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. What’s more, over four billion pounds of plastic bottles end up in landfills or as roadside litter each year.

To further this initiative, The Cedar has fixed our lobby drinking fountain and is selling non-leaching, reusable aluminum water bottles with The Cedar logo printed on them. Bottles are for sale at Cedar events for $20 or for a reduced price of $10 if you take the MN Energy Challenge at the time of purchase.

This initiative is funded in part by City of Minneapolis Climate Change Grants.
